Reporting to, and working closely with the Business Development Director, this newly created position will be responsible for managing and leading the estimating team in order to maximise work winning opportunities.
This will be achieved by prioritisation and timely, compliant and competitive bids from a motivated, focussed, happy and driven team.
Duties and Responsibilities include:-
Ensure a robust common system and process for the review of tender documentation to enable risk identification and recommendations to Bid Submission team prior to tender submission.
Ensure direct reports performance reviews are conducted in line with company requirements.
Develop a culture of integration, positive working relationships, continuous improvement and use of best practice.
Be aware of and ensure that Health & Safety policies and practices are understood, implemented and enforced at all times.
Manage direct reports effectively in order that business and customer targets are met.
Identify development needs and ensure necessary training is provided where budget permits.
Drive cross function training to enable flexibility and improve responsiveness.
Engender a cross functional team spirit and “can do” attitude in the team.
Encourage empowerment, commerciality and decision making. Promote a “work winning” culture.
Hold effective, meaningful, positive and productive direct dialogue with customers, to better understand needs and manage expectations. Ensure team members can do same. Be an ambassador for the company.
Deliver timely, accurate, competitive and compliant bids. Explore every opportunity to add value or improve prices, to maximise the attractiveness of our bids whilst optimising margin.
Improve speed of estimate and bid submission.
Introduce effective bid prioritisation and empower bid / no bid decisions in line with corporate strategy.
Take ownership of bid pipeline. Actively seek forecast bid data.
Make informed margin decisions in line with corporate strategy and business goals. Effectively balance market rates and profit expectations.
Produce high quality management reports to enable business decisions. Analyse, interpret and draw meaningful conclusions from data on bid volumes, conversion rates and expected opportunities by sector and region.
Remove or minimise non-value add activities to enable faster, better, more accurate bids.
Assessing that the department and available resources are fit for purpose, efficiently targeted, and are appropriate for the business needs.
Contribute to the development of a culture of continuous improvement within the company in order to meet stretching financial and performance targets,
