Before I got "Engaged". My early career was spent in outplacement before I started to work in recruitment in the early 1990s. I worked for one of Scotland’s premier recruitment organisations.
I focused primarily on the manufacturing and engineering sector, recruiting niche and executive-level talent into the electronics, food, drink, engineering, biotech and processing sectors. In the 10 years that I was with this organisation, I worked with some of Scotland’s most successful manufacturing businesses - it provided a great grounding in business, commerce and building successful teams.
After 10 years and having achieved a Director level role, I decided to move into business ownership and set up Escape Recruitment with other founders. This business grew both in terms of size, turnover, profit and employees, and at its peak was one of Scotland’s most successful start-up recruitment businesses winning awards within the sector and in the entrepreneurial community. My own development was enhanced by the day-to-day running of the business, managing strategy, tactics and working with customers as well as taking every opportunity I could to learn from others and bringing this learning back into the business.
After 17 successful years, with some real ups and downs, in 2017 I made the decision to sell my shares and start a new business, one that would meet organisations' needs to attract, recruit and retain the very best talent in the marketplace whatever the skill set.
Why I got Engaged
I LOVE recruitment, I believe that working with the right recruiter can be transformational for the business. As a business owner, I know what a difference the right team of talented staff, motivated and living the values can make to your bottom line. Sadly, so many recruiters just don’t get it right and there are lots of reasons for this. I am passionate about getting this right for my candidates and clients and adding real value – otherwise, what is the point?
This meant setting up a new business, with great values, exceptional teams and a passion for delivering added value recruitment, selection and employee engagement processes that, regardless of the skill set, find the fit right for clients and candidates – a real mix of recruitment and business consultancy.
What Engages Me
In no particular order, my family and friends, positivity, fun, laughter, solving problems, making decisions, supporting others, working hands-on for clients, being appreciated, learning new things, having a great team around me, my 13-year-old son Patrick and my secret crush – Captain Kirk!!!!
