Cameron McHugh, Administration Assistant

Before I got Engaged

I spent 6 successful years at St Margaret's High School in Airdrie, I took part in fundraising events such as the St Margarets Hospice 6k run around Strathclyde park and met many of the fantastic set of friends I have today.

When I finished my secondary education I went on straight from school to university, my chosen degree was a BSc(Hons) degree in Pharmacology at Glasgow Caledonian University where I study currently. This degree was a great choice for me as it allows me to explore the fundamental workings of drugs in the human body something which I find incredibly interesting. I hopefully would like to go on to research areas and perhaps using my degree to contribute to the creation of new and helpful drugs for some of the major challenges facing us in the world of medicine, such as cancer or Ahlzehimer's disease.

Between times at university I held a number of jobs in the food service sector and completed bar work in a few different pubs and restaurants, in Coatbridge and Airdrie. This helped improve my people person skills and gave me a good work ethic to go on with something I had already developed in secondary education sitting highers for university and gaining good marks.

Why I got Engaged

On completion of my first year at Glasgow Caledonian I found myself looking for a more regular set of hours over the summer and I was fortunate enough to be offered a position at Engage where I work currently with lifelong friend Anne-Marie Hamill and a fantastic team of professionals dedicated to delivering the highest standard of recruitment. From my first day on the job I knew this was the right company for me, the office was full of energy and self motivation it was so refreshing to be in an environment where everyone is giving 100% to the work and to be doing it with a smile. Bringing my skills in administration and IT which I had gained from secondary and university education to the company I have been able to develop my skills and learn even more from the team here at engage.

What Engages me

My friends and family, having a good laugh with the people I know, being able to learn new and exciting things, being able to get my head down and put in a good shift when there's work to be done and being able to chill out when its over and be proud of what I've accomplished. In my opinion there's not a better feeling than knowing that what you've done has made a difference. I also enjoy a bit of cooking, I'm always looking for something new and tasty I can cook up in the kitchen such as my lovely funghetto chicken pasta, my other passion being football, not played for a long time but I still watch on with my group of mates and hope to get back on the ball soon .
