Manufacturing Engineer (Electrical) Salary c£30k - Lanarkshire

Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager the overall purpose of this role is to plan, design, and continuously improve all manufacturing processes, ensuring that processes are safe, efficient and able to produce products to a suitable quality standard at a competitive cost.


Main Duties & Responsibilities


  • Risk Assessment of new and existing processes, HS&E compliance in all processes
  • Support Value Streams in the continuous improvement of safety

New Product and Process Development (NPPD)

  • Liaise with design engineering teams to review the manufacturability of new products and engineering documentation prior to transitioning of new projects into manufacturing
  • Support the transitioning of new products into manufacturing, overseeing first builds and the coordination of information capturing and improvements as necessary
  • Create manufacturing plans based on Corporate guidelines 
  • Error prevention through effective use of PFMEA and mistake avoidance applications

Engineering Change Notice (ECN’s)

  • Manage engineering change where required for product improvement, new product release, cost reduction or obsolescence avoidance
  • Updating of SAP part and BOM data

Work Procedures

  • Plan, detail, create, issue and maintain all of the interrelated work procedures to be followed during each step of production. Work procedures will accurately detail the assembly methods, safety requirements and specific quality requirements required in the manufacture of products

Manufacturing Support and Optimization    

  • Respond to daily manufacturing issues and problems, assisting in the rapid implementation of problem solving methods and necessary countermeasures
  • Address Health & Safety issues that require engineering input
  • Ergonomic assessment of workplace area’s and related tasks
  • Provide tool solutions for assembly
  • Manufacturing process optimization including: area layouts and workflow changes, time studies, work content analysis and line balancing, etc.

Tools & Machinery

  • Plan and design, provide and determine how to suitably maintain: machinery, tooling and equipment needed in the manufacture and assembly of product

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in daily improvement activity. Participate in Kaizens, improvement initiatives, geared towards achieving the company’s business targets 


  • Ensure that all manufacturing processes comply with requirements of ISO, CE, HS&E, other certification bodies as applicable to the product being manufactured

Performance Measures

  • Contribution to site and Value Stream KPI metrics (Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost)
  • Contribution to Value Stream future state plans and / or improvement targets
  • Personal objective measures (TTMS)
  • Contribution to any specific Manufacturing Engineering department metrics (i.e. age of ECN’s, ETQ/ITQ etc)

 Experience & Qualifications:

  • Engineering background. Minimum apprenticeship in manufacturing (electrical) engineering roles.
  • HNC Engineering upward with practical skills, preferably within a lean manufacturing environment
  • Able to interpret, communicate & use technical data
  • Competent use in Microsoft Office Suite / PC literate
  • Ideally experienced in continuous improvement with a track record in achieving results and / or leading others in improvement initiatives

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Highly motivated, flexible, self-reliant and adaptable
  • Level thinker capable of solving wide-ranging technical problems
  • Customer focus
  • Communication skills (at all levels)
  • Able to complete tasks on time with minimum supervision
  • Experience in an assembly environment
  • Expected to keep up to date with relevant technologies and best practice
  • CAD skills is an asset
