Manufacturing Engineer, salary to £34k, depending on experience - Lanarkshire

Our client manufactures in the Central Belt and due to volumes of work, the engineering team needs to grow. You will join a highly skilled team, committed to training and developing and delivering an expert support service to the assembly function.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Create Risk Assessments of new and existing processes, HS&E compliance in all processes
  • Liaise with design engineering teams to review the manufacturability of new products prior to production
  • Support the transition of new structures into manufacturing and oversee the first build, capturing all information and improvements
  • Manage engineering change for product improvement, new product release or cost reduction
  • Updating of SAP part and BOM data
  • Plan, detail, create, and issue all relevant work procedures to be followed during each step of production
  • Respond to daily manufacturing issues and problems, to achieve rapid and sustainable fixes
  • Workplace layouts and workflow optimization
  • Time Study welding and fabrication areas
  • Implement manufacturing improvements and provide cost reduction as required
  • Assist vendors and other departments with technical issues and enquiries
  • Advise/Assist Product Support on quality issues and field failures
  • Maintain and update Welder Testing Register, and arrange external testing at relevant times
  • Assist Fabrication supervisors
  • Plan and design, how to suitably maintain: machinery, tooling and equipment required for manufacturing
  • Participate in daily improvement activity. Participate in Kaizen, TIP and PIE improvement initiatives
  • Ensure that all manufacturing processes comply with requirements of ISO, CE and HSE

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Engineering background. Minimum apprenticeship in fabrication/mechanical/production engineering roles
  • HNC in Fabrication/Welding upward with practical skills, preferably within a ‘lean manufacturing’ environment
  • Able to interpret, communicate & use technical data
  • Competent use in Microsoft Office Suite / PC literate
  • CNC programming of drilling, burning and bending machines would be an advantage
  • Experience of Robotic Welding programming and principles
  • Time and Motion trained
  • Ideally experienced in continuous improvement with a track record in achieving results and / or leading others in improvement initiatives

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Highly motivated, flexible and adaptable
  • Level thinker capable of solving wide-ranging technical problems
  • Experience of 3D CAD modelling
  • Excellent Communication skills (at all levels)
  • Able to complete tasks on time with minimum supervision
  • Experience in a structural environment, with good SAP knowledge
  • Expected to keep up to date with relevant technologies and best practice
